LETS GO TO THE MARKET

Like many visitors to France, a walk around a French market is a great pleasure and is an essential part of an excellent holiday.

Sheila and I have lived here for 14  years, and we still get a thrill from market days.

Saumur market on a Saturday morning has become a standard visit for our visitors, especially during the Spring and Summer months.

Brissac Quince each Thursday is a wonderful setting for the market – and there is a great quirky bar there owned by an old couple who are really charismatic. We asked for a bowl of water for Ash and Monsieur replied “Bien sûr, rouge, blanc ou rosé” !

Some markets are very small. Les Rosiers-sur-Loire has only 6 or 7 stalls each Monday. Gennes is larger and usually has a good fish stall there.

The best one by far is in Angers Place Lafayette.  We might have to put it on our “Guests to do list” when we get some?

It is a great market. Not only the produce, the selection, freshness and good price, but the ambience.

Today we marvelled at the fabulous quality of vegetables, salads, fruit, meat, fish, cheeses etc etc. Those purchasing were selecting exactly what they wanted and there is always an offer to taste

Listen to the chatter as you sit at a bar enjoying a glass of wine, usually rosé! Look likes perfection to me.
