Oh! Oh! Cadeau!
Who doesn’t enjoy receiving a gift from a loved one, or friend?
OK! It can sometimes be a bit hit and miss – like the bright (and I do mean bright: NEON ) orange 100% nylon shirt !! or the glass cutting kit, enabling wine bottles to be turned into wine glasses! or a book on how to make kites!
Generally though it is a pleasure especially when you know a lot of thought has gone into choosing the item. For me it is all the more pleasurable when the gift relates to food!
A cookery book is of course the obvious choice here, and is always welcome. If the book comes recommended by the giver and annotated with a note mentioning favourite recipes it’s all the more personal and pleasing. For me it’s wonderful to receive a cookery book.
I think we must have over 200.
Pestle and mortars – is a collecting “passion” of mine.
My collection started about 35 years ago when we were given a small wooden antique one. It continues to this day and the current total is around 50. Trying to collect them made from different materials is a challenge – the gold and silver ones do however seem to elude me!
Over the years gifts connected to food have been received with delight, including beer and wine making kits! For my Birthday Simon and Caitlin presented me with a kit for making goat cheese. France is particularly Noted for it’s goat cheese, evident by the large choice throughout the country. So we are genuinely looking forward to this experiment. Look out for the Monkvalley label!!
Simon and Caitlin seem to understand our love of all things food, epitomised by the giving of the “Gourmet Scratch map of Europe” this is covered with names of dishes throughout the continent. T he aim is to scratch the coating off the name of each dish as you sample it. This is the kind of challenge that Sheila and I will always welcome and will enjoy!
So far we have done well – but Eastern Europe is going to prove a bit of a challenge
